The human body has two “fuel” options: to run on fats (of which our body was made to store a lot), or to run on glucose (a form of sugar). Most people have carbohydrate and sugar-rich diets that make their bodies run mainly on glucose. When our bodies are primed to run on glucose we don’t use up the considerable amounts of fat that our bodies store up, while we crave for the constant shots of glucose that can only come from frequent eating – and so our bodies accumulate more and more fat that we end up not using.
For senior citizens, especially Alzheimer’s, running on glucose poses another problem: their brains have difficulty harvesting from it the energy they need. This “starves” their brain of fuel and causes further deterioration.
We all need a good source of fats that will help reduce for everyone the drawbacks of a glucose-based diet, and not just any kind of fats, but fats that have the most beneficial effects for the body. In short we need good fats for a healthy mind and body. And among the good fats that can fulfil this function the best is MCT: Medium Chain Triglycerides.
Coconut oil is 63-66% made up of a special kind of fat called “medium-chain triglycerides” (MCT); indeed, coconut is the best source of MCT. MCT’s, because of their structure, are absorbed and metabolized by the human body more rapidly and efficiently than other sources of energy available to it. The body converts the MCT into ketones, which are produced only when fats are burned and which many have called the body’s “preferred fuel” or energy source. More than any other fat, MCT greatly increases the level of ketones in the body. While it is not possible to have an exclusively MCT diet, the next best thing is to have a steady source of MCT as part of our diet: the “purer” the MCT, the better!
Laurin is pure MCT drawn exclusively from its best source: coconut oil, which has its own manifold health benefits. Laurin: all the goodness of coconut oil and of MCT in a bottle!
